Daniel P Fischer, born 1976 in Friedrichshafen, lives in Weimar, works wherever there's electricity.

My primary interest is human/computer interaction, I want to overcome the limiting interfaces of screen, keyboard and mouse, enabling people to tap more of the inherent expressive power of computers in more intuitive and playful ways. I have graduated in Media Arts and Design at Bauhaus-University Weimar in 2004 after studying with Jill Scott, Ralf Homann and others, and since found a fertile playground for my experiments in the Arts and Free Software scenes. Financing my roaming bohemianism through freelance interface development work, I am publishing my infrastructural software under the free (as in speech) L/GPL licenses and try to contribute back to the development communities of the tools I use myself.

While those technical products target a likewise audience, I regularily try to bridge the divide by setting up installations or performances and give accessible presentations, usually involving a camera/projector setup and video analysis/synthesis software. With these, I aim to enchant people as much as give them a glimpse into how computers actually work- I want the visible outcome to be close to the recognition algorithms, to be a visualization of what the machine sees.

I feel too technical to be an artist but too experimental to be a programmer. That places me in a sweet spot of being able to integrate into various related environments and cooperate with diverse people and organizations.
